Hakka Mamma

Hakka Mamma serves fun Asian food, which is the line under its own logo. The menu spans steamed and tossed dumplings, Indo-Chinese classics, chilli tofu and paneer, and a short dessert list.

  1. 01How they came inA pan-Asian kitchen with a wide menu and a feed that had to make each dish sell itself, one post at a time.
  2. 02What we took onA dish-led social programme. One plate, one name, one frame, with the logo held in the corner.
  3. 03How it runsTwo registers sit side by side. Dark and moody for the tossed and sauced plates, warm cream with pagoda linework for the steamer baskets and the lighter dishes.
  4. 04Where it standsTwenty nine posts in the set, covering starters, mains and dessert, all off the same two layouts.

Questions

Asked about this work

How is the menu covered?

One dish per post, from Singaporean dumplings through chilli tofu to the cheesecake at the end of the meal.

Why two visual registers?

A dark tossed dish and a pale steamed dumpling need different backgrounds. Two layouts cover the whole menu without the grid falling apart.

Who shoots the food?

We do, styled for the post rather than pulled from a menu card.
