Kayko Terrace Cafe
Kayko Terrace Cafe is an open terrace under a canopy in Chembur East, Mumbai, sharing an address with Spice Laundry, both by Sadguru. It serves all day and runs a bar night on Tuesdays. The feed is @kaykoterrace.
- 01How they came inA terrace is hard to photograph well. The light changes across the day, the canopy throws colour, and a phone picture of a plate under it never looks like the plate does in person.
- 02What we took onThe food photography and the event artwork. Desserts, plated mains, drinks and the shared table, shot on the venue's own wood and ceramic rather than on a studio sweep.
- 03How it runsWe shoot dark and warm, close in on one dish at a time, and let the terrace furniture do the styling. The event posters, like Tipsy Tuesday, use a single hero drink rather than a collage, with the artist, the date and the time in one block.
- 04Where it standsNine films and twelve photographs are shown here, with four behind the scenes clips from the shoot days.

Nine films from the Kayko Terrace shoots with MK Studios: the dessert menu front to back, steamers and layered glasses to the Modi Ji chaat, and cheese set alight at the table. Hover any one to play it.

Is this the same venue as Kayko Diner & Bar?
No. Kayko Terrace Cafe is in Chembur East and runs its own Instagram at @kaykoterrace. Kayko Diner & Bar is in Andheri East. They share the Kayko brand mark, not an address.
Were the photographs shot on location?
Yes, all of them at the cafe, on its own tables and crockery. The behind the scenes clips are from those same shoot days.
Do you also design the event nights?
Yes. The Tipsy Tuesday artwork is ours, co-branded with Spice Laundry which shares the address.
