The client

Tandoor

Tandoor is a restaurant and banquet venue on Wardha Road in Nagpur, Maharashtra, trading since 1989. It reopened after a refit and needed an identity that said the flavours had not changed even though the room had.

  1. 01How they came inA restaurant with a 1989 date on it and a brand new dining room. The problem was the gap between the two: nothing on the walls or the feed told anyone this was the same place.
  2. 02What we took onThe identity and the collateral that carries it. Wordmark, colour, ornament, business cards, reopening posters, festival and event artwork.
  3. 03How it runsThe look borrows from Indian truck art and hand painted signage: hot pink and marigold yellow, blue and orange lotus corners, a diamond border and a slab wordmark with a hard offset shadow. The 1989 line sits under the name everywhere it appears, so the age is always part of the read.
  4. 04Where it standsThe same border and corner motif now carries stationery, reopening posters and the New Year event artwork, so a poster and a business card are recognisably from the same place.
The work

Brand and identity

The core lockup. A slab wordmark in marigold with a blue offset, set inside a truck art border of lotus corners, curls and diamond edging.

The work

Campaigns and posters

Event and festival artwork, including the New Year's Eve card with the buffet, entry pricing and reservation details laid out to be read on a phone at arm's length.

A refit changes the room. The identity is what tells regulars it is still their restaurant.
